Ex-accountant's housekeeping business enjoys sweeping success with 53 franchises in eight years : Rachel Ray, Former business consultant and accountant

Rachel Ray, 47, is making turnover of nearly £4million a year from Bright and Beautiful, an eco-friendly housekeeping service she set up for busy families.
Since launching in Altrincham in 2007, the business has grown into a nationwide operation with 53 franchises, employing more than 400 people.
What is the business?
Rachel says she set out to create a housekeeping business rather than just the usual cleaning operation.
She says: 'I wanted to offer the sort of service that I needed when I had a full-time job and ran a family too.
'At that time, I wanted to come home to a clean, ordered and tidy home. I wanted it to be organised, tidied, smelling good and even de-cluttered where necessary. It's about the transformation of the house, not just a place where someone has cleaned around the clutter.
'Our average customer is a dual-income family that wants the essentials – house cleaning and ironing.
'But we do offer a concierge service as well doing things like organising the dry-cleaning. Some of our housekeepers have arranged kids' parties and some have waited in for tradesmen. It can be quite varied.'
