Kayla Itsines Like You've Never Seen Her Before : Kayla Itsines, Fitness Trainer from Adelaide, Australia
Updated on: 16 Dec 2015
Every single time we meet Kayla Itsines we're always blown away by how down to earth and real she is for a fitness phenomenon with almost 8 million followers on social media. She's a no-fuss kinda girl who, even while smiling for our cameras on a stifling 36ºC Sydney Summer day, cared more about making sure everyone on the shoot was happy and hydrated than the fact she was more than likely suffering from heat stroke (still so sorry about that, Kayla — we really are). Spend five minutes with her and you'll soon discover she loves her family a lot and her boyfriend/business partner Tobi Pearce even more, her followers are her life and you'll want to bottle her positive energy (perhaps this should be a new venture for the 24-year-old?).
We sat down with Kayla after the shoot to chat about her Sweat With Kayla app, her booming success and her surprisingly normal approach to health.
POPSUGAR Australia: Do you remember the moment you realised things were taking off for you on Instagram?
Kayla Itsines: I think there was a moment when, and I don't even remember the page, a page with a fair few followers found me somehow, I was just giving out inspirational tips and they uploaded me. I was on no followers and I remember jumping that day to 10,000, I was like, 'Oh my God! I can't believe that people are actually interested in my page!' That's when it really grew and it started taking off.
PS: It must be an amazing feeling to have millions of people all over the world looking up to you?
KI: I don't really feel like they're looking up to me, I feel like we're a big team, we're doing things together. It's not like I'm at the top and everyone else is looking up to me, I'm in there with the girls, that's why I made up the hashtag #BBGsisters, to make everyone realise I'm just like them.
At the world tour, the people who were organising it kept telling me the girls were really pumped up and excited to see me but I was really excited to see them. I look up to a lot of the girls that I follow, they're massive inspirations to me — like the mums transforming their bodies after giving birth, they're incredible!
PS: Did you ever expect to be so successful in such a short period of time?
