Updated on: 14 Jun 2016
Congress general secretary newly-appointed to be in charge of Punjab and Haryana, Kamal Nath says that "the novelty" factor of AAP is fast fading in Punjab's electoral fields and Akali Dal "is hopelessly loaded with anti-incumbency burden." He has also dismissed AAP/Akali bid to target him over the 1984 anti-Sikh riots as "desperate political stunt" and asserts that there was no charge or case against him. Excerpts:
As an advocate for a 'mix of experienced and youth leadership' in the Congress, how do you look at your appointment, along with Ghulam Nabi Azad, as AICC general secretaries?
It is the decision of the Congress president and the vice-president. Azadji is an old friend and we have been working together, right from the beginning of our innings. Like him, I too have been AICC general secretary in the past. The Congress president and vice-president have been holding discussions on these appointments for quite some time. I am happy they reposed faith in me and I will do my best to rise to the expectations and deliver.
How do you look at the Akali Dal and AAP challenge to the Congress ?
