New fashion label Shehlaa by Shehla Khan is getting noticed on fashion websites and has become the go to label for stylists. Far from jarring or anything too bright, Shehlaa is more about understated glamour meets vintage style. From studying at the London College of Fashion and Istituto Marangoni in Milan to working with Bollywood's favourite Manish Malhotra, the Mumbai based designer is hugely intersted in styling as well. Obsessed with old world charm, this young designer often attempts to recreate that certain 'magic' through her garments. Her clothes best described as super feminine and classic – are an extension of her personal style. She feels detailing and fabrics play a huge role in designing a collection.
Excerpts from the interview
Woman's Era: Tell us something about your latest spring collection?
Shehla Khan: It's called a sky full of stars. Clouds, stars rainbows are elements of what we see in the sky from day to night. Dreams represent an expression of who I am, in my world of dreams the clouds are always there, the stars and rainbow all exist together at once! Absolute Beauty lies in imperfections, fading clouds with the rainbow or the rainbow with stars and even clouds and stars at once that is how I perceive this dreamy sky along with flowers that look like constellations! After converting these ideas into embroideries, I've paired them with sensual and sophisticated silhouettes for a whole new approach to an authentic take on elegant summer wear. Each garment is a representation of an exquisite dream, my sky full of stars.
