1. Where is Kerala placed in the healthcare map of India ?
The health scenario in Kerala has always been among the top run in the country as life expectancy in Kerala and other health indicators have been consistently been good.
The new challenges that we face as clinicians is the increasing burden of non communicable diseases of which cancer is emerging as a serious health issue in the state.
We are seeing cancers in the elderly population and have also seen serious increases in the incidence of lifestyle associated cancers like breast cancers, cancers of the gastrointestinal tract and lung cancers especially. In this fast changing scenario we as a community of physicians we have to gear up to face the increasing burden of cancer and find ways to tackle them.
2. How do you rate the awareness level of the population towards cancer ?
