A Conversation With : Freelance Writer, Editor, Blogger Shuchi Singh Kalra, Author of I Am Big. So What?
Updated on: 25 Jun 2016
Bodyshaming has been a heated topic that has hogged all the limelight from the world over. From celebs to the media-there is hardly any group left that has not come out with a non-supportive clout against body shaming. However, amid all the trending tags and global revolution, one Indian author is creating ripples in this pool with her latest book- I Am Big. So What? If you have not already stumbled across Shuchi Singh Kalra's second book-you must be living in some shell.
A freelance writing studio owner, a zesty Libran with love for her family and the pen--at once, Kalra had already wowed me with her first book Done With Men. Luckily, the busy bee thought it worth her while to engage in a casual chat with Polka Cafe. Read on to know more about the lady, her book and all that you want to know about these!
What should readers expect from this latest kid on block?
A generous helping of fun, wit and humor, along with a sprinkling of heartbreak and a dash of self-discovery. I am Big. So What?! is not just a story of a plus-sized girl. It is for everyone who has ever lost confidence because they thought they were not good enough.
What's been the reaction to the book so far?
It has been overwhelmingly positive. More than the nice reviews, what has been most satisfying is readers writing in to tell me that the book inspired them in some way to be more confident and accepting of their bodies. The most touching mail was from a father who said that he would like his overweight daughter to read the book.
You think writers and authors in India are actually seen as influences or is the celebrity crowd the only influence we Indians look up to?
